Tips on Strengthening Your Eyesight By Tiffany Provost

Your eyesight is very precious senses - it is something you rely upon every day for just about everything. Thus keeping your eye health is really important. You want to avoid early signs of weakening or even total loss of eyesight by following these eye strengthening tips.

Eat a healthy diet. The jury is still out, but a lot of people believe vitamin A will help eye strength. Vitamin A rich foods can help reduce night blindness and other problems. This includes foods such as broccoli, sweet potato, green leafy vegetables (eg spinach) and of course carrots! It is important not to overdoes on Vitamin A as it is toxic in high levels - it could lead to problems with your liver. Be sure to get sufficient vitamin A to keep your eyes strong.

Use a total range of vision. Just like any part of your body, if you don't use it, you lose it so challenge your eyes to focus on things near and far. Try reading fine print in the phone book and look out for signs that are far away - just generally test your eye's abilities regularly in all the ranges of distance.

Sunshine. Research shows kids who spend more time outside have better vision. Children who are outdoors two to three hours per day will have less of a chance of suffering from myopia (short-sightedness). Sunshine and fresh air have qualities to strengthen vision, here's one more reason to get your kids outside to play.

The correct eyeglass prescription. It is more harmful than helpful to have the wrong prescription in your spectacles. There is a possibility of eye strain and permanent damage to your eyes by wearing the wrong specs or contacts. No matter if you are classified as near-sighted or far-sighted, your eyesight will continue to alter. Regular visits to the optometrist are important to be sure your prescription is correct. The correct spectacles or contact lenses are important to your overall eye strength.

Corrective eye surgery. A permanent solution to strong eyesight is to get LASIK eye surgery. The surgery will get your eyes back to 20/20 vision or better. LASIK eye surgery has a good reputation in the industry with few complications but be aware that not everybody is a good candidate for vision corrective surgery. Go to a consultation at a LASIK surgery office to enquire about your eligibility. If you are eligible and you decide to go for it, be ready to incur a cost of a few thousand dollars (per eye) for vision correction surgery.
