Anxiety and Depression - Medication Concerns By Robert D Hawkins

Prescription medications for anxiety and depression can be very effective in treating these potentially serious conditions if the drug, dosage and the patient's commitment to getting better are all present. Most of us consider our doctor's miracle workers and indeed in some ways they are, but they are human as well.

Arriving at the correct dosage and medication is not an exact science when it comes to mental disorders. Think of the treatment plan as your recipe and your medication as one of the ingredients in the recipe. What do you do if you fail to have an ingredient? More than likely you improvise leading to varying degrees of tastiness. But if you were to have all of the ingredients that your recipe called for chances are your dish would turn out as anticipated.

Medications of all kinds work best when they are taken as prescribed. They work less effectively when taken haphazardly, and may not work at all if doses are missed frequently. So in knowing this why would anyone fail to take their medication as prescribed?

Complicated dosing schedules can be a problem that is difficult to overcome. Also, a person may be on multiple medications at the same time requiring a virtual personal assistant with a degree in physics to keep tract of the schedule. The very young, the very old, and people with ADHD may not remember to take all their doses. Teenagers sometimes skip doses intentionally, and sadly some parents who are in divorced or separated situations take it out on the kids, in an attempt to get back at the perceived bad parent.

Another medication concern for those with anxiety or depression has to do with dosage. This is especially true in periods of economic distress. Seniors who are struggling to afford their prescriptions may take just half or a quarter of the intended dosage trying to make their medications last longer. Certain medications for depression such as Prozac that are specifically formulated for brain function will not work if the full dosage is not taken.

In summary, if you work with your doctor to find answers, take your medication on time, and don't try to cheat the dosage your chances will be very good at finding a medication regime that works well, in your pursuit to overcome anxiety or depression.

Additionally, many people are choosing to walk down a different road in their fight against anxiety or depression; the road of natural herbal remedies. Natural herbal remedies for mild to moderate anxiety or depression are proving to be a safe and affordable alternative to harsh prescription drugs. If you are looking for a natural treatment option this is an area worth considering. For more details email: freediabetictips@gmail.com
