Mother's play such an important role in their children's lives. Dealing with childhood obesity is a daunting task and as a mother, what role can you play to help reverse this terrible trend in society? Studies have shown that mother's eating habits rub off on children and setting an example, from early on in their lives, can and should have a major impact in their eating habits. Here are a few tips that you, as a mother, can learn to focus on that can help you think about how you can help stop obesity:

  • Be patient and understanding when children fight over what is good for them. Patience is a virtue that is overlooked upon in today's hectic lifestyle.
  • Learn to be a better listener. Observe your children as they eat and look for habits that your mother would of frowned upon when you were a child. Looking back to when you were a child could help you get tips from your mother or grandmother.
  • Ask your kids what they think about the food they are eating. Really listen with both ears and try to understand where they get their bad habits from.
  • Variety is the spice of life. Use it to test your children's knowledge about food and food products
  • Set the example and watch their faces. You will be amazed on how much they believe in you.

As a father and grandfather I realize how important mother's are. Sometimes I think I see it more than mother's see it themselves.
