Lower Cholesterol Foods - Powerful Solutions to High Cholesterol Readings By Van Crawford

Lower cholesterol foods really are nature's solution to unhealthy cholesterol levels. Much of what we have heard in many years has centered around the effectiveness of statin cholesterol medication, but how often have you seen published a list of low cholesterol foods at your doctor's office. Other than when I've searched for it on the Internet, they are few and far between.

I find this truly shocking considering some of the side effects that come with medication. The fact is, that there are many wonderful foods that lower cholesterol that should be a regular part of everyone's diet. These foods fit into four categories.

1.) Vegetables-Green leafy and orange vegetables are all beneficial for lowering cholesterol levels. Most people are familiar with the fiber found in vegetables, but they also contain natural substances called plant sterols that have been shown to help block the absorption of cholesterol into the blood.

2.) Fruit-Lower cholesterol foods such as fruit contain many vitamins and minerals in addition to fiber that help increase your energy level and eliminates fiber from your system before it can be absorption.

3.) Nuts-These wonderful cholesterol-lowering foods also contain fiber. However, in addition to this the are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids that have been proven to reduce the occurrence of heart disease.

4.) Whole Grains-Unprocessed grains such as oatmeal should be the mainstay of any diet for lowering cholesterol. One of the best breakfasts you can eat is a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and walnuts mixed in.

This list of low cholesterol foods can be used as a guideline for developing your own high fiber diet to reduce high cholesterol. You will find on my website more information on lower cholesterol foods and other natural substances that have scientific research behind their ability to support healthy lipid levels.
