Home Based Business Opportunity - How Do Ergonomics Affect Your Health? By Noel Crowe

Starting a home based business opportunity has a lot of advantages, but it has its disadvantages too. When working at home, you tend to take fewer breaks from work. As a result, you end up sitting in one position for a long period of time, which poses a lot of serious health risks.

Setting up an ergonomically correct office desk can mitigate a lot of these risks.

The chair you sit on:

You can spend almost the entire day sitting on the chair, while working on your home based business. You must make sure that you are comfortable sitting on it. It should offer proper support to the lower part of your back. It should be at such a height that when you sit on it, you should be able to keep your feet firmly on the floor.

The computer:

When you start a home based business, you invariably spend a lot of time on your computer. Ailments related to prolonged computer usage are very well-documented and you can get to read about them a plenty.

The ultraviolet radiation coming out of your monitor may cause damage to your eyes in the long term and it may also trigger many other ailments. An LCD monitor is better than a regular tube monitor, because it does not give out ultraviolet radiations. When using the monitor, make sure that the top of your monitor is at your eye level for comfortable viewing. Use a monitor with an adjustable stand instead of a rigid one.

Typing on a keyboard for a long time can put a lot of stress on your fingers and wrists and also your shoulders depending on its position. It also adversely affects your nervous system. Place your keyboard in such a position, that when you type, your shoulders and hands are loose and relaxed. When typing, instead of stretching your fingers, move your whole arm to reach the far keys.

If you use the computer mouse more than the keyboard, you should be careful about a few things. When you buy a mouse, look for one, which sits comfortably in your palms. When moving it around, hold the mouse loosely, otherwise, it will put a lot of strain on your wrists and can also cause nervous problems. Resting your wrists on the table when you use the mouse is not advisable.

Laptops:

More and more people work from a laptop rather than a desktop computer, since it is convenient to carry around.

However, using a laptop has many disadvantages too. It has a very cramped keyboard along with the uncomfortable track pad, which makes the typing job a real ordeal. Investing in a good laptop desk and a separate mouse will solve most of your problems.

Conclusion:

Working from home allows you to customize your office space according to your personal preferences. Investing in a good ergonomic environment for your business opportunity will only serve to save you a lot of time and money on health bills. What's more, it will also make you more productive, which will ultimately help you earn a better income.
